ABOUT UGS

We are a team of 10 student managers who run and operate University Graphic Systems (UGS) located on the Cal Poly campus. UGS is a student-managed, student-operated experiential enterprise that provides full graphic and printing services for the Cal Poly campus constituency. Since our inception in 1968, UGS has provided hands-on experience for students entering the graphic communication industry.

Students train for two quarters in specific areas of their choice such as sales, marketing, prepress, estimating, sheet-fed and web offset lithography, bindery, finishing, and mailing services. After completing their initial training, students are eligible to apply for paid positions within the enterprise, advancing to supervisory roles within their specific areas of interest. Students/employees who are interested in management are interviewed and hired annually to manage and run our company.

UGS places a high value on relationships with clients and have a passion for print, design and web development. UGS pursues the opportunity to learn and grow skills through partnerships with corporate sponsors, the Graphic Communication Department, Cal Poly Corporation, the Cal Poly campus, and the greater San Luis Obispo area.

Advised by an assigned faculty member and a full-time technician, students are exposed to real-life managerial situations that require logical, succinct, and critical decisions that can affect the success of any printing company.
